Yoga Classes

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME
I wanted to share a little about me and why I got into yoga. I live in Whitley Bay, having moved up here from Hertfordshire in 2017. The main draw being the beach! If I'm not in a yoga class (as a student or teacher) I am more than likely on the beach walking my beautiful Irish setter; Chessie or in the sea!
I believe yoga finds you when you most need it. It sure did for me! Prior to finding yoga, I suffered with my mental health, I wasn't sure what my purpose was, I felt lost and unable to create a future or to prioritise myself. When I first got into yoga, I realised the power and depth of the practice going far beyond the physical.
I fell in love with yoga instantly, realising the empowerment self-love gives you. It allowed me to see how awfully I had been treating my body and myself for years- it was time to begin practicing kindness. My mental health began an upward journey as I began to make myself a priority- my outlook on life completely changed. Yoga has taught me how to take the practice off the mat and into daily life - finding a sense of balance everyday, returning to controlling my breath whenever difficult situations or emotions arise. Trusting where I am, trusting the process, surrendering in to the moment. To me, yoga is all about bringing you into the present moment, letting go of what came before, releasing plans for after, dissolving expectations, judgements and instead... simply allowing yourself to be.
My Training:
I have now been living my dream and teaching yoga since 2018. I started my business teaching classes at The Yoga Station and now teach at Jasmine Yoga, Howdon Hub, David Lloyd, The Village Gym, Waves, Lakeside Centre, Tynemouth Pool, Apta Vita, private classes for NTC Staff, aswell as holding weekly 1-1s.
It was in 2017 that I I decided I wanted to become a full time yoga instructor. I completed my 200HR Yoga Teacher Training over a 12 month period - completing my certification in 2018.
I travelled to Spain to be taught by Mina Hosokawa in 2019 for an 'Art of Adjustment' course. I particularly enjoyed learning how much physical adjustments benefit people and how much they can help students to learn how a posture can feel, as prior to the adjustment it's likely they are not feeling as good as they could be in a pose!
After my initial teacher training, I went on to study anatomy; completing a Level 2 & 3 Gym Instructor certification to allow me to understand how the physical body works and the engagement of specific muscles. I began Mindful Personal Training in 2023, PT sessions with more awareness of how your body feels intuitively, and remaining connected to your breath throughout.
I have completed multiple online courses to help progress my knowledge; a mindfulness course, a children's yoga course, a hypermobility course, a Yin course, breath-work aswell as an ongoing exploration of buddhism.
I go to weekly classes to be taught by a buddhist nun in Cullercoats (Gen Norden) - I have found studying buddhism influences some of the intentions I create in classes, for example working on; patience, acceptance, kindness, compassion.
I teach yoga with the aim of creating a space that is welcoming to all. Attending to individual needs, intertwining intentions to encourage you to strengthen and explore the mind as well as the body. Using different breath techniques (pranayama) keeps you present and grounded. You will breathe deeper, allowing a deep sense of calm and relaxation to flow through you. I keep a light hearted approach within classes, laughter and smiling is always welcome!
